As a special birthday present to his mommy, Sullivan picked today to decide that my arms were the only acceptable sleeping, sitting, playing, eating, resting spot. Granted, it probably has more to do with his recent illness than my birthday. ;) It was a challenging day, but I'm sure that's what I get for having plans to accomplish anything.
Our upcoming trip to Arizona has us all on our toes. It doesn't seem like I'll have enough time to get all the laundry done and the house in shape before we go - ENTER: LUPITA! She'll be here tomorrow at 3:00, so hopefully w/ a few hours of her help I can get it all done. As an added incentive to me - if we *do* get it done at a decent hour then Kyle and I can sneak our date-night in. If not, then we'll plan a night out when we get back to the US.
On a SUPER high-note : Sullivan's passport arrived! :o They're quoting people in the U.S at least 8 weeks from the time they submit their application. Thanks to the magic of the U.S. Consulate here in Guadalajara, we received ours in a little over 3 weeks. I am *so* glad to not have to deal with the headache of convincing the Mexican airline to let us on the plane w/ our passportless infant.
And my rant for the day - What is the deal w/ Raisin Bran? Why can't they figure out that people really only eat it for the raisins? I mean, if I wanted to eat just plain BRAN cereal, I would have bought it, right? I always end up pouring this HUGE bowl because I'm trying to get just a few more raisins in there. Good for my digestion, but not so good for my waning cereal supply and caloric-intake. They have the raisin thing figured out though. They are SUPER dehydrated making them harder and chewier than regular raisins (which I usually don't like.) and then I swear they roll them in sugar(as if they needed any. . .I mean compared to bran, they're like pure sweetness, right?)
And on a funny birthday note: my kids couldn't figure out why my birthday wasn't a bigger deal. I kept them home from school and halfway through my (fussy sullivan-ish) day, I decided we needed to get out. We went to Costco for my official birthday lunch (don't laugh, my kid-friendly, budget-conscious choices are limited.) Guthrie wanted me to buy a cake, but I said no - so he and Addie sang me "Happy Birthday" over our shared Berry Sundae and Hotdogs. (in no particular order.)
Addie wanted me to go get a pinata - but Guthrie quickly informed her that moms and dads don't get pinatas - just kids.
Later, Guthrie asked me what present I was getting. I told him that he could give me the present of being a good boy all day long. He thought that was stupid as "you can't open that!" So, I told him to go ask dad where my present was. That led to an amusing little conversation in which Guthrie *insisted* that Kyle come up with a present TODAY! Kyle informed him that I would get my present tomorrow - and that frustrated Guthrie to no end. "Tomorrow isn't her birthday!"
So - Happy Birthday to me! A few more birthdays and it will no longer be embarassing to tell people I'm a mother of 3. In the meantime, I'll start saying, "I'll be 26 soon." It works for little kids.

Priorities
Do you like how Costco was higher on the list than my HUSBAND?! LOL!
Obligatory disclaimer: Those are in no particular order.
Obligatory disclaimer: Those are in no particular order.
I am thankful for:
1) Health - mine, my kids, my husband's
2) The Church - especially for making this big world seem a whole lot smaller.
3) Money - all the good it can do for my family and for others.
4) Costco - 'nuff said
5) My husband - for his friendship, love, intelligence, and his drive to learn, do and BE all he can for our family. (*sniff sniff*)
6) The internet - for making my life easier, and making friends seem so much closer.
7)For my body's ability to carry a child and nourish it (both before and after birth.)
8) Humor :p
9) Free Agency - I love being able to make decisions about my life and own the consequences.
I had so many "I am thankful for"s in my head earlier, but those are the few I can think of.
More to come as they pop into my head.

Out of the mouths of (mouthy) babes. . .
Don't feel too bad for him. He was voted the cutest gringo boy in a dress in the whole country of Mexico!!
The best thing about these pictures is that I can finally see some Guthrie family resemblance. I have proof that Kyle didn't cheat on me now! (What a relief!)
The kids are in bed and I'm stealing a moment to myself. Suddenly this voice comes floating out of the bedroom :
"Mommy, you and daddy are stupid (did he really just say that??) because when we go to bed you just watch TV, and get on the computer, and do whatever you want. That's just stupid - now GET TO BED!"
Is it bad that it made me laugh?? Poor guy is going to have that rebound effect when he gets old enough to move out. He'll gain 15 pounds because he will have always wanted to eat ice cream for dinner and fastfood for every meal. He'll be a zombie because he'll stay out late just because he can. He'll wear spiderman shirts w/ green-striped pants and leave his hair uncombed for weeks at a time. He'll draw all over the walls of his nice apartments just because his mom isn't there to remind him of all the hard work it takes to get the marks off. (Thank you Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for all you do in our home.)
Sigh - I don't blame the poor kid. I LOVE BEING A GROWNUP!
I went to bed last night already tired from all the work I knew I had to do today. I tried some affirmations. I told myself I had PLENTY of energy and there are more than enough hours in the day to get it all done. I won't pretend like I got it all done, but I will say I finished everything I attempted.
The kids' room, the playroom, the bathroom, the Family Room, and the laundry all got some decent attention today. Although, now I have a mountain of clean laundry to sort and put away. (See Guthrie, it isn't all fun and games after you go to sleep.)
I feel so motivated to get the house picked up and organized. We'll be flying home to Arizona on Saturday and I've gone on enough trips and returned home enough to know that its worth any effort you expend to get the house ship-shape BEFORE you leave. Seriously, even if it means staying up for 36 hours before you leave - just do it. The feeling of walking in after a great vacation and being able to shower in your clean bathroom, then slip into your old ugly, clean PJs (because of course you took the cute ones on the trip w/ you.) and slip into your clean sheets. Seriously - PRICELESS!
When I was cleaning out the kids' room today I found a bin of some cloth diapers I haven't used in a while. (They're odd sizes or colors or just extras.) I took a couple of minutes and listed them online. 5 have already sold! (Money flows to me easily. :p ala "Remembering Wholeness." )

Only 24?
Lately it seems like I have good intentions of getting here to blog, but somehow 11 p.m. (or 12 a.m. or 1 a.m., etc.) comes around faster that I think it should and I end up sleeping instead of typing. My blog is in good company with my dishes, mopping, and laundry.
Sullivan is changing so much everyday. He's *so* mischevious (in an endearing kind of way) and is working up the courage to stand on his own. We went to the Hawke's house for dinner on Sunday and he walked all over their back patio pushing one of those little pre-walker toys w/ a handle and wheels. He looks so grownup moving around upright like that. I absolutely love it, but it gives me a twinge of sadness too. Nothing too serious, just the usual 'why do they have to grow up' pangs that go hand in hand with parenthood.
I am also prepared to call today his official "first word" day. He creates new and intricate goos and babbles by the hour. So, today I was carrying him downstairs listening to him say over and again, "nah nah ungah nah". We stopped by Kyle's "office" (which is actually the maid's quarters - don't I WISH!) and immediately upon seeing his daddy, Sullivan tensed up and said clear as day "Da da - (pause) Da da!" It was so obvious that he has finally connected that dotted line. I love it! I tried to get him to say "ma ma" (in a jealous moment, naturally) and he switched back to his "nah nah ha-nah" sounds. It really does sound like he's saying "hanna" sometimes, so I was tempted to go ahead and pretend like that was his first word, but I would be stretching it.
We had a nice, long weekend. The kids skipped school friday, and Kyle had the day off too. We went to Tianguis market and bought plenty of produce, including the most ripe, juicy mandarines I've ever tasted. YUM! We also bought a pile of bootleg DVDs. (Is that illegal here in MX??) We had planned on trying to make the most of the day off and hit the zoo, but by the time we were done w/ the market we were about to pull our hair out over the moods of the kids. We went home and let them nap and spent the evening watching movies. I bought season 1 and 2 of The Office and had a good time watching that.
Kyle and I went to a quick dinner at a little lebanese hole-in-the-wall. We took Sullivan with us, since he didn't have a nap and I'm sure he would have been a bear for Lupita. He LOVED the Tilapia and ate the hummus like it was babyfood.
On Saturday, we met up with Kyle's high-school buddy, Rob, and took him to our favorite taco shop, here in Guadalajara. Brooke called at the last minute wondering what our plans were, so I invited her and her family to come along. We ended up spending a nice evening at this open-air restaurant and after dinner we came back to our house and ate cookies and chatted. (Rob brought me a hefty supply of chocolate chips from the states - EXCELLENT!)
Sunday was church as usual. Sullivan was so cranky for sacrament meeting, so I finally ended up pacing the halls just trying to will him to sleep. JUST when I thought it was no use and I should give up - he laid his head on my chest and dozed off. He slept through nearly all of Sunday School and I was able to nurse him just as class was ending. He went with Kyle to Priesthood and I was able to sit through most of Relief Society before I heard him crying in the halls. There was only 10 minutes left of church, so we grabbed the kids from primary and raced home to get ready for our dinner/FHE plans.
We had a great time w/ Shelly and Alex and their family. They also had the missionaries over and we found out that a few of the houses we were interested in renting for next year are actually in their ward boundaries. I was hesitant to move out there, but knowing they would be in the same ward really made me feel better about it.
Kyle's classes were all cancelled this week, so he's spending the time at home. So far we've spent more time hanging out together and visiting different areas of the city than he has spent studying. Hopefully the next few days are more productive.
We have some appointments to see some houses that are for rent tomorrow - so I'm kind of crossing my fingers that they'll be something worth living in. The areas seem very nice - and the prices are lower than what we're paying now.

Nast-ay!
that last entry was kind of gross, huh? Guess I should have put a warning up on that one.
Well, its Monday again. I did end up skipping church yesterday, but got my spiritual kick last night. Sister Pingree was here in Guadalajara doing a multi-stake meeting for all the Relief Society and girls in the area. It was a great talk - and she stayed for 15 minutes afterward talking to Tanya, Brooke and I along w/ the Mission President and his wife (the WATKINS) and the old temple president. She ended up asking us to pose in a picture with her :p Pretty cool, huh?
So, I got home and Kyle had managed to get Sully to sleep (I think he ended up crying for a while :( but a milestone nonetheless as that boy has NEVER gone to sleep without me). The other kids were asleep too, so we killed some time and then decided to go down to the kitchen and cut his hair. It was 10:30 and I wasn't really in the mood, but at least when it was over I knew I didn't have to do it again for a while, right?
I got up this morning and went jogging again, and have since cleaned a little and lazed a little. I kept the kids home. I'm worried Addie isn't over the yucks - and I was too lazy to take Guthrie on his own.

Poopy Addie
The kids were both in bed SUPER early last night. They were *so* fussy and overcooked. Addie fell asleep within a few minutes it seemed - and by 7:45 Guthrie was out too.
I was dealing with one of Sully's many night-wakings when Adeline came into our bedroom. I sent her over to Kyle's side of the bed because I was busy. She immediately started jabbering and said she had to pee. So she ran (loudly) to the bathroom and peed and while Kyle was getting her dressed he noticed poo on the toilet seat and realized she had pood (diahrea) in her undies. So he cleaned her up and put her back in our bed.
We did all fall asleep for a little while, but soon enough Sully was awake again and I had no room to maneuver with him on one side, her laying long-ways across my feet, and Kyle on the other side. I asked him to take her into her room where I promptly forgot about her and slept REALLy well with that big bed all to my (and Sully's) self.
Well this morning I went in to check on her and she had yucky underwear again. Kyle told me she woke up several times in the half of the night that he was with her. When she woke up, she immediately cried and said she was going to throw up. She also has a fever and looks so pale. :(
Poor Addie is sick. And - here's ANOTHER sunday that I won't be going to church.

Una Mosca
I asked Guthrie's teacher about the words to the song he loves. Turns out it really is Spanish:
Una mosca pegada a la pared.
Una mosca pegada a la pared.
Una mosca
Una mosca
Una mosca pegada a la pared.
"A fly is stuck to the wall"
Then of course, they sing it w/ all the vowels - turning it into complete nonsense. I remember doing this all growing up with the song "I like to eat, eat, eat, Apples and Bananas."
